TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The GIFSA logo is available at a nominal cost to any manufacturer who wishes to have a product labelled, provided the product complies with the specifications. Several food companies have already had the GI of many of their products determined by GIFSA e.g. Bokomo, Kellogg’s, Sasko, Sunbake, Premier Foods, National Brands and Tradekor. Dairymaid was the first company to mark one of their products i.e. Dialite with the GREEN PLUS Frequent Foods logo. With little trouble a food company can have any of their products graded and labelled  and thereby obtain an important advantage over competitive products.

The procedure to have a product marked starts with an application to have the product endorsed by GIFSA. At a cost of a R5000,00 your application will be processed and the GI-factor of your product will be determined. This fee includes a written report for the company on the nature of the product, reasons for the test results and possible ways to alter the GI-factor in the manufacturing process. The ingredient content of a product will have to be verified by an independent body/laboratory. 

If your product qualifies for one of the endorsement logos, you may display the emblem with the compulsory text on your product, in an approved format. The cost is R4000,00 paid in advance annually, for a minimum period of three years.

GIFSA aims to make a definite impact on the health of our citizens. The design of the mark is geared to reach all the communities of South Africa. Major role players have already indicated that they intend to participate actively in educating the public in this rating of foods. This makes it possible for your company to use the mark at a nominal fee. We believe that the public, and specifically those with medical conditions should be able to clearly identify the food products that are not harmful. It is also time that healthy food products receive the credit they should. By using the GIFSA endorsement logo, your company’s healthy foods can be clearly identified by the consumer.
